Carystonia is a rendition of the gaelic name which means "Christ Follower."
A Christ Follower is someone who has dedicated their life to follow the teachings an emulating the actions of the Lord Jesus Christ.
After Christs' death, resurrection and ascention, the Early Christians attempted to maintain the faith while going back to their regular lives. It was under persecution from the Roman Government that they were first called "Christians" as recorded in the book of Acts.

The actual word is Christianos which means belonging to or follower of the Christos, or Christ, the annointed one.
![]() Originally this was a label, a derrogatory label, given to the earliest followers, all of whom were Jewish. Which caused another dilemma. The Roman government had a difficult time telling the Christians from the Jews, precisely because the earliest Christians were Jews!
The earliest Christians are also credited with certain symbols. Initially the Cross wasn't used, rather, the sign of the fish, or the ithcus. The ICHTHYS as it was known, comes from the first letters of this phrase: Iesous Christos Theou Yios Soter or Jesus Christ Son of God Savior. In the Greek it looks like this: IXOYE. ![]()
Being a Christ follower is no different from being a Christian. However, there is a movement which calls itsself the "Christ Follower" movement. Among those who are preaching separation is one Erwin McManus who claims that his goal is to "destroy Christianity as a world religion and be a recatalyst for the movement of Jesus Christ."

While it does seem as if the faith has become wrapped up in traditions and formality, what McManus seeks to do carries with it some serious implications. To begin with, the notion of "shedding" the title of Christian is actually contradictory to scripture. They were first called "Christians" at Antioch. Of course, it was meant as an insult, but since when were Christians promised we would never be insulted?

The current "Christ Follower" movement is not what this website is about. The people who died for the faith had the very spirit of God within them (2 Corinthians 3:18). They were not merely "following" Christ, He sent The Other Comforter.

Leaving behind the criticism of a heresy, when I speak of being a Christ Follower, I mean one who picks up their Cross daily, and carries it even to the very end. There is no formula to be found here. Rather, in this website is an offer of grace from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
